Pilot Petit 1 Fountain Pen and what is it?

I bought this pen really wanting to like it. I reviewed in the past and for the most part gave it a thumbs down...but I kept going back to it trying to find some love. It just seems like I should like it, small, fountainy and clear. I have been giving it other chances and with a little nib tweaking and I can use it as needed for what it was intended=a quick, handy, easy to transport fountain pen.

So, I won an Ebay auction for some pens and this little thing came along with the winning. I have no idea what it is (seriously.) The brass part slides up and down and pulls off, the inside shows some sort of gearing mechanism. The only writing says "Swiss Made and Pat. Pending" Odd. I will post another picture of it tomorrow.

Here are the invisible twins. Just having them makes me feel a little bit cooler than I actually am. It's almost as if they have super powers.

Part of the problem initially was that I was not posting the cap hard enough and the tiny littlething was popping off. So, being a man I just pushed harder and that seemed to fix it. (yes, my next step was a hammer.) I use this pen now as it was intended, it goes in my bag with me when I travel and as long as I remember to dig way down in my pen pockets, I will use it.

Those are pretty slick, we've got one and love it. ;-)

Seems we had the same experience. I now have two petits and they are my everyday drawing and sketching pens.

Well, it definitely falls in the "cute" category, but it sure seems small. Do you find its small size difficult to hold over an extended period?

This is one of my favorites. What nib tweaks did you perform? Nr

Yeah, I love the Petit1s too. No matter what ink you refill the carts with, they always start up immediately... no matter how long you've left them sitting. Pretty darn impressive.

I've never had to nib tweak - my 4 have written beautifully right out of the box. I give a lot of 'em as gifts, too.

The little unknown gizmo you have is a telephone dialer. Back when phones had dials, you put the round tab into the hole and used that rather than your finger!

Telephone dialer - okay I get that - but what is the point of the numbered sliding part?

Great ain't they? I just got an orange petit, and love it right out of the box... it being my first FP, I couldn't imagine anything being any smoother(but then tried the Lamy safari that came too, and found smooooothness) I didn't realize they are that small when ordered, but am pleasantly surprised. I carry a collapsable zebra normally, and prefer short pocket pens for travel and work, so it will be great to carry a compact FP daily.. IMO, for the price, they should make great backups, and last ditch pens, maybe drop one in all my car glove boxes...

A phone dialer?
Interesting...

Ironically, everyone I knew when we had dials, used a pen to dial with.
